The new Rue Charles Darwin was inaugurated yesterday at the Ban de Gasperich.

On Thursday 26 July 2018, the College of Mayor and Aldermen of Luxembourg City inaugurated the new street connecting Rue François Hogenberg to Boulevard Kockelscheuer  and Boulevard F.W. Raiffeisen via Rue Lise Meitner.

As part of the Ban de Gasperich urban development project, Rue Charles Darwin provides a new direct connection between the Gasperich business park and Boulevard Kockelscheuer and allows road users to and from the area to have direct access to the motorway network, thus freeing the residential area of transit traffic.

350 m long, the new Rue Charles Darwin provides two-way traffic. In addition, sidewalks and parking strips on both sides of the street have been developed. From the street, pedestrians will also be able to access the ecological corridor (under construction) and the new park at Ban de Gasperich which will be developed soon. The new Charles Darwin bus stop, built as part of the same project, will be operational from Autumn 2018.

The development of Rue Charles Darwin has also involved the installation of all the necessary infrastructure in the context of future constructions over the total length of the street, including a sewage system with separation (total length of 560m), with a volume rainwater retention of 196m3, water and gas pipes, power and telecommunication lines and connection to the district heating network. In addition, a bridge crossing to the "Drosbaach" has been built.

The final development of Rue Charles Darwin - Rue François Hogenberg intersection will be carried out together with the infrastructure project planned for Rue Christophe Plantin, Rue François Hogenberg and Rue Père Raphaël in late 2018.
