Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection has announced that, following animal welfare problems detected during recent editions of the DogExpo event held at LuxExpo in Kirchberg, it was decided not to grant - in the short term - an authorisation to the Luxembourg Cynological Union to organise a new edition of the DogExpo in September 2018.
The ministry stated that the organiser will be asked to present a concept bringing together all the conditions of animal health and well-being so that the next edition of the DogExpo 2019 can take place in the best possible conditions.
In addition, it has been decided that the legislation accompanying the new Animal Welfare Act will prohibit not only the cutting of dogs' ears and tails but also the holding and display of amputated dogs across the territory of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
