On Friday 27 April 2018, the official ceremony of the change of command at the Fire Department and ambulances of the City of Luxembourg took place.

After the flag honours and the review of the troops, Colonel Erny Kirsch handed the flag to Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the ville de Luxembourg, who gave it in turn to Lieutenant-Colonel Serge Heiles, in the formal part of the official investiture, stating "Officers, NCOs and Firefighters of the Main Relief Centre of the City of Luxembourg, you will now recognise as your Chief Lieutenant-Colonel Serge Heiles here present and you will obey him in all that he will command you in accordance with the laws and regulations for the success of your relief operations".

Following the taking of command, Lieutenant-Colonel Serge Heiles and Mayor Lydie Polfer delivered speeches in the presence of the guests, including the Minister of the Interior, Dan Kersch, Paul Schroeder, Director of the Administration of the Rescue Services, and Marc Mamer, President of the National Federation of Fire Brigades.

Serge Heiles thanked the aldermen of the City of Luxembourg for the trust they have shown in him. Mayor Polfer congratulated outgoing Colonel Erny Kirsch for his dedication and efficiency as Chief of the City Fire and Ambulance Service and wished Lieutenant-Colonel Serge Heiles much success and courage for the fulfillment of his new tasks.​
