Luxembourg’s emergency services responded to over 200 callouts during yesterday evening’s thunderstorm.

Sunday saw the implementation of several severe weather warnings, including yellow and orange alerts from Sunday evening until this morning.

As a result of the bad weather – which hit the south and centre of the country particularly badly -Luxembourg firefighters made more than 200 callouts. They were aided by the Relief Services Administration, which effectively activated the Operations Management Centre (OMC) to coordinate actions in the concerned communes. Moreover, the central emergency service hotline 112 has been reinforced.

Minister of the Interior Dan Kersch has expressed the government’s gratitude for the availability and commitment of emergency service volunteers: "The emergency services responded in an exemplary fashion to the call for help. Volunteers are an essential link in the relief services and will remain an essential pillar of the future CGDIS."

Whilst the thunderstorm may have passed, there is still a yellow alert for strong winds (gusts between 70 and 80 km/h.), across the Grand Duchy, today from 11:00-21:00.
