The Environmental Administration has issued an alert concerning air quality across the Grand Duchy concerning PM10 fine particle pollution.
The evolution of fine dust particles (PM10) in the air is expected to be as follows:
• Friday 2 March: Exceeding the daily threshold of 50 µg / m3 at the measuring stations of Esch-sur-Alzette and Luxembourg-Bonnevoie. The measured concentration was 54 µg / m3 at both stations.
• Saturday 3 March: Risk of exceeding the daily threshold of 50 µg / m3, especially in the southern part of the country.
• Sunday 4 March: Drop in concentrations, but forecasts high levels remaining in the extreme south of the country.
The following is a reminder of the precautions to be taken:
In case of high levels, those deemed to be vulnerable and sensitive (people suffering from cardiovascular diseases, heart or respiratory insufficiency, people with asthma, those with low immunity systems) are urged to take precautions by avoiding prolonged outdoor activities.
Residents are urged to use public transport; to carpool; to comply with the regulatory requirements for the control of heating systems; to avoid the use of open fires in fireplaces.
A reminder has also been issued that it is forbidden to burn waste in the open air, as such combustion is at the origin of the formation of fine particles.
