The Directorate of Immigration at Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has confirmed that a total of 67 refugees have arrived in the Grand Duchy from Greece and Italy.
They have been relocated to Luxembourg following the decisions taken by the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council in September 2015 when Luxembourg has committed to relocating 557 people under the relocation mechanism for applicants for international protection from Greece and Italy.
Thus, as of 30 November 2017 and 20 December 2017, 38 people, including 34 adults and 4 children, arrived in Luxembourg from Italy. At the same time, 29 people, including 14 adults and 15 children, were relocated from Greece on 19 December 2017.
With these recent arrivals, Luxembourg has fulfilled all its relocation commitments from both Member States.
Representatives of the Directorate of Immigration of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Luxembourg Office for Reception and Integration (OLAI), administrations under the supervision of the Ministry of Family and Integration, and from the Directorate of Health all welcomed the arrivals at Luxembourg airport.
The OLAI will take care of the reception and the social supervision of the new arrivals and will support them in their steps of their daily lives throughout the process of applying for international protection who go through the asylum procedure as provided for by the law of 18 December 2015 on international protection and temporary protection.
