Luxembourg Minister of Equal Opportunities yesterday attended a conference on the topic of domestic violence against women entitled “Two couples dance”.

As part of “Orange Week”, organised by the Luxembourg Ministry of Equal Opportunities and the Luxembourg section of Zonta International between 19 and 26 November 2017, Minister Lydia Mutsch, participated on Thursday in this conference initiated by the ProFamilia and Maison de la Porte Ouverte foundations in collaboration with the Banque internationale à Luxembourg.

In her welcoming speech, Lydia Mutsch highlighted the importance of prevention an essential part of the fight against violence in general and against domestic violence in particular. She pointed out that since 2013 there has been a downward trend in the arrest of domestic violence perpetrators in Luxembourg, even though police responses to domestic violence remain at a high level.

According to Minister Mutsch, this slight downward trend in convictions could demonstrate that the enormous efforts made through the various awareness and information campaigns are bearing fruit. Yet the minister has called for continued vigilance. This is the objective of Orange Week, which brings together more than 40 associations, NGOs, private companies, banks and public institutions that stand in solidarity with female victims of all kinds of violence.
