On Wednesday 8 November 2017, Xavier Bettel, Luxembourg's Prime Minister and Minister of State, welcomed officials of Greenpeace Luxembourg to his office at the Hôtel de Bourgogne in Luxembourg city centre.
The subject of the safety of the Cattenom nuclear power plant was at the center of discussions.
Following the information published by Greenpeace on the safety of nuclear reactors and stating a risk around spent fuel storage pools, the Prime Minister recalled his position expressed to the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, according to which nuclear energy is not a viable energy for the future.
Prime Minister Bettel reiterated that it is therefore essential to think about investing in alternative energy projects whose character could be cross-border. He will continue to raise this point with the French authorities.
