On Tuesday 7 November 2017, the Mayor and Aldermen of the Ville de Luxembourg, together with staff of the Photothèque, presented a book from the collection "Treasures of the Photo Library" to the 5 winners of the competition organised on the occasion of the exhibition "Trades of yesteryear and manual work".
The winners were: Sylvie Elter (Junglinster), Nora Sahr (Heisdorf), Denise Beffort (Bascharage), Ludwig Barth (Grevels) and Jeff Baden (Luxembourg City).
The exhibition, installed from 15 July to 10 September 2017 at the Ratskeller Cercle Cite, showed visitors the diversity of professional activities of yesterday and today, through 134 black and white and colour photos of different authors including Pol Aschman, Pierre Bertogne, Vic. Fischbach, Jochen Herling, Tony Krier sen., Edouard Kutter jr., Marcel Meyer, Marcel Schroeder, Marcel Tockert and Marc Wilwert: photos of miners, radio mechanics or car mechanics, firefighters, shepherds, "Dppeniger", manufacturers of bowling pins, doctors, nurses, glassblowers, rose growers, importers, washers, carpet knitters, dogwalkers, personal trainers and even webdesigners.
Among the many visitors, more than 1,000 answered correctly the question of the competition, namely "In which street was the central dairy in 1935 in Luxembourg-city? (Answer: boulevard d'Avranches).
