A group of a total of 52 applicants of international protection (asylum), including 49 adults and 3 children, have arrived in the Grand Duchy from Italy as part of a relocation.
Following the decisions taken by the Justice and Home Afficars (JHA) Council in September 2015, and under the relocation mechanism for applicants for international protection from Greece and Italy, Luxembourg will receive a total of 557 people up to the end of the year 2017.
The number of relocations made from Italy now stands at 211 out of a total of 248, while 272 people out of 309 have been relocated from Greece. Luxembourg is thus on track to meet all its relocation commitments by the end of the year.
Representatives of the Directorate of Immigration of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Luxembourg Office for Reception and Integration (OLAI), administration under the supervision of the Ministry of Family and Integration, and from the Directorate of Health, welcomed the arriving people at Luxembourg airport.
OLAI will take care of the reception and the social supervision of these people and will support them in their steps of the daily life throughout the procedure of their application for international protection.
Applicants for international protection relocated from Greece and Italy go through the asylum procedure as provided for by the law of 18 December 2015 on international protection and temporary protection.
