On Saturday 14 October 2017, members of the last contingent of the Luxembourg army "Kosovo Force" (KFOR 52), including an officer, four non-commissioned officers, two corporals and sixteen soldiers, returned to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg after spending four months in Kosovo.
The ceremony took place at Luxembourg airport in the presence of Étienne Schneider, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Francine Closener, Secretary of State for Defense, and relatives and relatives of members of the soldiers.
Since June 1999, NATO has been leading a peace support operation in Kosovo in support of international efforts to consolidate peace and stability in the region. Since the transition to the second stage of the deterrent phase in March 2011, the Luxembourg ISR (Supervision and Reconnaissance) platoon was directly subordinate to KFOR headquarters. The platoon was articulated into two ISR sections, a command team and a maintenance team.
As a result of the government's decision to redeploy the Luxembourg contingents, Luxembourg participation in the KFOR mission ended in October 2017. A total of 52 Luxembourg contingents were deployed in Kosovo from April 2000 to October 2017.
