The Grand Ducal Police have reported that a car stolen in the morning of New Year's Day was later found abandoned in the river Moselle near Schengen.
The police had been alerted to the discovery of the car in the river at around 10:00 on 1 January by a member of the public who had been out walking.
The Remich police inspected the car and established that it had been stolen in France during the night. The perpetrators had then disposed of the car in the river Moselle. As the car had entered the water in a shallow section, it was not submerged. There was no trace of any occupants.
