On Friday 16 December, the body of a senior NATO official was discovered in a car in Andenne in Belgium with a single gunshot to his head.

62 year-old Yves Chandelon was working at NSPA (formerly NAMSA in Capellen in Luxembourg) at the time of his death and is understood to have attended his office Christmas party on the eveving he died. Andenne in Blegium is between Capellen in Luxembourg and his home in Lens, Belgium.

Belgian police are investigating the incident and are understood to have ruled out suicide. The public prosecutor in Belgium ordered an autopsy to be carried out; this took place last Tuesday.

Working as an auditor for NATO, Yves Chandelon is understood to have been investigating terrorism financing and money laundering activities and is reported to have recieved a number of strange telephone calls before his death.

He was the former director of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) in Luxembourg.
