Luxembourg's Directorate of Immigration at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has confirmed that, following the decisions taken by the JAI Council in September 2015 and under the relocation mechanism, Luxembourg will host a total of 557 people from Greece and Italy by the end of 2017.
The Ministry confirmed that Luxembourg is determined to ensure that this mechanism works and is continuing to support its commitments.
As a result, on 14 December 2016, a total of 21 people, including 19 adults and 2 children, arrived in Luxembourg; they constitute the third group of asylum-seekers to be relocated from Italy.
Representatives of the Directorate of Immigration and the Luxembourg Office for Hospitality and Integration (OLAI), an administration under the Ministry of Family and Integration, Welcomed the people arriving at the airport.
OLAI will take care of the reception and the social supervision of these people and will support them in their daily life throughout the procedure of their request for international protection. Applicants for international protection relocated from Greece and Italy go through the asylum procedure as provided for by the Law of 18 December 2015 on international protection and temporary protection.
