The seasonal meteorological bulletin issues by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) has been issued for the autumn months and covers the most important cornerstones that shaped the weather in Luxembourg, including temperature, precipitation and other isolated topics.
In relation to air temperature over the last few months, it was too dry and temperatures in Luxembourg were slightly lower at most stations compared to the period 2001-2010. The highest negative temperature was -0.5 ° C in Oberkorn, while in Ettelbrück and Findel positive deviations went up to 0.4 ° C. At the station, the average air temperature was 1.0 ° C above the value of the reference period 1981 - 2010. The highest daily mean was recorded on 13 September at 24.3 ° C. As such, September was the hottest month with a monthly average of 17.4 ° C at the station Findel, the hottest September since the beginning of the records in 1947.
Meanwhile, October was mostly cloudy with cool air. At the end of the month, the effect of high pressure was felt and led to stable Autumn weather conditions. Until mid-November was colder due to cold air coming from the polar direction. This changed mid-November when the weather became milder with abundant precipitation. However, temperatures at the end of the month dropped below freezing point.
The level of precipitation for Autumn 2016 was lower in all stations compared to the period 2001-2010. Due to a lack of rain in September and October, there was indeed much more precipitation recorded in November.
