On Wednesday, Luxembourg's Minister for Housing, Marc Hansen, together with representatives of Arcelor Mittal and the Fonds du logement, signed an agreement that sees the Housing Fund take over the former industrial mill in Dudelange and its 32 hectare site.
This agreement is the first of five former industrial sites - in Wiltz, Dudelange, Sanem, Esch-Pétange and Lallange - that will be decommissioned and made suitable for housing projects.
The Dudelange site will eventually see 270,000 m2 of building, of which 160,000 m2 will be designated for housing, to be represented by 850 - 1,000 housing units.
Minister Hansen stressed he was particularly pleased that this matter, with a long history, has finally been resolved to achieve this milestone. The excellent partnership with the Ville de Dudelange is particularly encouraging for the future development of the new 'Neischmelz' district. The other four projests (PAPs) should now be introduced quickly.
