On Sunday evening, the Grand Ducal Police were called out to respond to a total of 60 disturbances of the peace during and following the Euro2016 final in which Portugal defeated France, between 20:00 and 04:00.
The disturbances ranged from noice in public spaces to brawls, with fireworks being set off in Differdange and Esch-sur-Alzette, with the latter also seeing people jumping on parked cars. "Honking of horns and loud music were everywhere".
One man was handcuffed and arrested in Limpertsberg when he threatened police officers with a broken bottle; a police officer was injured in the scuffle that ensued.
Another group of revellers threw stones at the police when they were being escorted from Boulevard d'Avranches to the city railway station at around 03:30. When the polcie moved in, two officers were punched in the face. Three fans were arrested.
The grand ducal police emphasised that there was no problem whatsoever in Echternach where a public viewing was organised outdoors.
