Four new petitions were opened to signatures on Monday.
Petition N°669 has called for the minimum spending limit needed to pay with a credit or debit card be lifted. Author Steven Curfs has come out against certain shops where a minimum spending amount, usually €5, is enforced, which he claimed causes delays or forces the customer to make unnecessary purchases.
In Petition N°670, Thuy Nguyen is asking that Luxembourg residents across all social categories be given the chance to enjoy the benefits of the service voucher system in areas such as childcare, the school bus, and homework help. According to the author, this would result in less stress for parents working full-time who do not have available relatives nearby.
Aldina Lutambi Filho submitted Petition N°672 as a means of allowing children born after 1 September to enter preschool in the year they are four, meaning they would not have to wait another year to begin their schooling as the current law dictates.
Petition N°673 has received two signatures in favour of promoting the optional use of reference texts and books in electronic format in high school classrooms. Petition author Rolando Chou Rivero said this would reduce the weight of students' backpacks, which at around 10 kg is not recommended for health reasons.
Each of these petitions will have to receive at least 4,500 signatures of support before 8 August 2016 to be debated in parliament.
