The streets of Luxembourg City were filled to the brim with revellers on Wednesday evening as part of the eve of the National Day festivities.
Unlike last year, the weather itself was cause for celebration and was reflected in a huge turn-out of people who came to dance, party and enjoy the 17 minute-long firework display that erupted from Fort Thüngen from 23:00.
The celebrations had begun earlier that afternoon with the changing of the guards in front of the Grand Ducal Palace, followed by an early evening concert by the Fanfare Royale Grand-Ducale and a torchlit procession of firefighters, Guides and Scouts and musical groups through the city, from Rue Philippe II to Boulevard F.D. Roosevelt.
The evening atmosphere was electric, with musical acts and DJs from and all over Europe, including Sun Glitters, Hell-O-Tiki and de Läb blasting tunes to get the crowds moving from stages set up across the Gëlle Fra, Place Clairefontaine, Rue du St. Esprit, Place des Bains and Place d'Armes.
As 23:00 drew nearer, crowds convened at vantage points around the capital, such as the Montée de Clausen, to secure their spot for the fireworks - some even bypassing security gates to climb a tower of the Casemates de Bock from which to admire the colourful display.
