On Friday 3 June 2016, the Regional Directorate of the Grand Ducal Police held the diploma ceremony for participants of the seminar on self-assertion, "Selbstbehauptung für Frauen und Mäner - SBKFM".
The opening ceremony was attended by Lydie Polfer, Mayor of Luxembourg City, Joëlle Elvinger, Mayor of the municipality of Walferdange and Regional Director René Lindenlaub.
The seminar took place from January to June 2015 and the 25 graduates were presented with their certificates last Friday. The seminar highlighted rules of behaviour to be observed in a dangerous situation, and how to recognise signs of such a situation before it escalates and without creating fear.
Experience from previous projects has shown that fighting crime should not only be limited to police forces but is instead a challenge for the whole of society. Several partners were subsequently approached in order to provide a more comprehensive concept to help combat insecurity in Luxembourg society.
The training consists of 17 modules of between 2 and 3 hours, covering topics such as behavioural prevention, self defense, krav maga, aid to both female and male victims and consultation for perpetrators of domestic violence.
