The occupants of a refugee reception centre in Sanem have had to be evacuated after heavy rainfall hit the south of the country.
At around 20:00, the occupants were evacuated from the reception centre by firefighters after the ground floors became flooded. The residents were relocated to other accommodation facilities by the Luxembourg Office for Reception and Integration (OLAI).
Sanem castle currently houses around 50 adults. Preliminary investigations have determined the damage to be minor and the residents are expected to return this weekend. The Sanem municipality and firefighters immediately offered to help and have provided teams to assist the OLAI in the cleaning process.
The Luxembourg government announced on Wednesday that it will be providing state aid to disadvantaged individuals in the Grand Duchy affected by the floods.
