An intoxicated motorist narrowly missed causing a road accident shortly after midnight on Friday after driving the wrong way down several streets in Esch-sur-Alzette.

The motorist first caught the attention of police when he was spotted driving the wrong way down rue Dicks towards a patrol car. When the police officers switched on the blue light to draw the driver's attention to his misconduct, he sped away down rue Zénon Bernard, turned in the wrong direction and drove on at high speed.

The motorist again drove in the wrong direction along rue Nelson Mandela and lost control of his vehicle at the crossroads between Boulevard Prince Henri and Boulveard J.F. Kennedy, narroly missing another car headed in the opposite direction. The driver then went at full speed onto rue d'Audun, in contradiction with a traffic sign, at which point the officers were able to stop him.

The police determined that he was driving despite being subject to a limited ban, and an alcohol test revealed that he was driving under the influence.
