Following the decisions adopted by the Justice and Home Affairs Council in September 2015 regarding the refugee relocation process, Luxembourg will reportedly receive a total of 557 people from Greece and Italy up until the end of 2017.
To this end, 41 Syrian and Iraqi refugees were welcomed in Luxembourg on Thursday 2 June 2016. The 28 adults and 13 children represented the second group of asylum seekers to be relocated from Greece to Luxembourg, and the second group of Syrian refugees to be received in the Grand Duchy in the last week.
The new arrivals were welcomed at the airport by representatives of the Directorate of Immigration of the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, of the Luxembourg Office for Reception and Integration (OLAI), and doctors from the Ministry of Health, the Sanitary Inspection Division.
The OLAI will handle the reception and social support to the new arrivals, supporting them in their daily life throughout their applications for asylum.
