On Wednesday, the Luxembourg Red Cross will open a second-hand clothes shop in Bonnevoie, to be named Vintage M(o)od, which will support its existing "Vestiaire" service.

"Vintage M(o)od" is an integral boutique which will offer very good condition second-hand clothing and accessories for men, women and children. They are all from the surplus donations not suitable for recipients of benefits from the Red Cross.

By making a purchase at Vintage M(o)od, shoppers will not only enjoy themselves, but will also help the Red Cross to support the poor.

Profits from these sales will be used to purchase items needed for missions of the "Vestiaire" service of the Luxembourg Red Cross, which are not covered by donations. These include new underwear and clothing for men and children in small sizes.

Faced with the influx of migrants since September 2015, the Luxembourg Red Cross has wished to optimise its distribution of free clothing. Hence the idea of a second-hand store. A concept already practiced by the Red Cross in Britain, France and Scandinavian countries, it is an essential support for their social missions.

The second-hand shop allows everyone to dress cheaply and also promotes social diversity. The beneficiaries of the "Vestiaire" and Social grocery store services will receive a 50% discount on their total purchases upon presentation of their clothing or their access card.

Call for Volunteers

The shop will be run by a team of volunteers who will handle the sales and inventory management; the Luxembourg Red Cross is appealing for volunteers. If you are interested and you have a few hours a week to devote to the Red Cross, please contact the hotline of the Red Cross (tel: 2755) You just have to speak one of the country's usual languages and be available from 13:30 to 16:30 and 16:00 to 19:00 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays.

The Vintage M(o)od shop is located at 1 rue du Dernier Sol, L-2543 Luxembourg-Bonnevoie; open Wednesday to Saturday from 14:00 - 18:00.
