As part of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHO) recognised on 17 May 2016, Luxembourg Minister for Family and Integration, Corinne Cahen, signed the IDAHO 2016 declaration.
This declaration of intent aims to end the discrimination and violence of which lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people remain victims.
In being a signatory, Luxembourg commits to ensuring that measures are adopted and implemented to combat discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
"Human rights are universal and neither culture, tradition nor religion can be invoked to justify any form of discrimination or violation of human rights," the statement reads.
Recognising that continued efforts should be undertaken at all levels, the statement of intent in 2016 places particular emphasis on measures to promote the social acceptance of LGBTI people and their equal participation in the labour market, regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
