The Grand Ducal Police have reported that a body has been recovered from the Moselle river at the locks in Schengen.

The grim discovery was made shortly after 09:00 this morning by a passer-by who noticed the corpse floating in the water and called the emergency services.

The police recovered the body and confirmed the deceased was male but whose identity could not be confirmed. It was unclear whether the man had drowned in the river or whether he had been dead before entering the water.

The public prosecutor has ordered an autopsy to be carried out on the body to determine the cause of death. The police also dispatched a forensics team to investigate the body and the scene.
