On Wednesday 13 April 2016, Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, François Bausch, broke ground on the Irbich viaduct near Clervaux as part a construction project on the new Clervaux cross section linking the N7 and the N18 in the north of the country.
At the local and national level, the crossway provides a direct connection from the Lentzweiler/Eselborn industrial area to the primary road network and will helpto relieve HGV traffic in the centre of Clervaux, which is able to bypass congestion to the North.
"Moreover, the road has a continuous connection specifically for bicycles, rallying the N18 to the N7 and completing the national cycling network," commented Minsiter Bausch. "This is a good example of the government's policy of integrating quality cycling infrastructure into a completely new road project. Indeed, this cycle path will ensure the bicycle link between Vennbahn (Troisvierges-Clervaux-Luxembourg) and a future bike connection along the N7 linking Nordstad in Weiswampach."
The construction budget was cited at €14 million and commissionning has been planned for the end of 2018.
