A monstrance, stolen from a Mersch church last Thursday, was recovered in a meadow on Wednesday afternoon.
The valuable item had been lifted from the church, along with a gold chalice, by an unknown intruder. The monstrance was discovered by a worker in a field in Steinsel at around 16:15 yesterday afternoon, although in damaged condition. The top of the monstrance appears to have been removed.
The cup has still not been found and latest police reports make no mention of any further information on the identity of the thief.
