The Grand Ducal Police have reported that they undertook an operation concerning two cafés in the vicitiny of Luxembourg-Gare on Wednesday evening, resulting in 11 arrests.

A total of 40 officers from the drugs section as well as the canine unit were involved in the raids which resulted in access being sealed off concerning two roads. They controlled circa 30 customers of the two establishments, with the sniffer dogs identifying no less than 11 people carrying drug; all 11 were led away in handcuffs. They were searched with some searches revealing the presence of drugs, ranging from a few joints to one woman having a small volume of drugs for personal consumption, to one man with a large amount of cash.

The police suspected that more than one of those arrested had retained drugs on their body, by swallowing them when in the form of small packets. These lie in the gastrointestinal tract until passed. In these instances, the public prosecutor was notified and ruled that these persons be hospitalised  for x-rays. In seven cases, the results were positive. One had swallowed 33 balls and another 36 balls - a total of 100 balls of cocaine were confiscated. These seven people were arrested to be brought before a judge.
