
At Wednesday's annual meeting of the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO), they agreed extended opening hours for one of the city's most popular tourist attractions, the Bock Casemates.
Francine Closener, Luxembourg's Secretary of state for the Economy (which includes Tourism), was in attendance along with representatives of other actors in the tourism sector across the Grand Duchy, with the meeting chaired by Mark Angel, LCTO President, with Tom Bellion, LCTO Director, also centrally involved.
In 2015, the LCTO (co-)organised no less than 625 events in the capital, including the Blues’n Jazz Rallye, Rock um Knuedler, Festival World MeYouZik, Streeta(rt)nimation, Printemps Musical-Festival de Luxembourg, Klassik am Park, etc.
Last year, tourism figures in the capital rose 12.33%, with 680,897 visitors recorded - represented by visitors to the LCTO offices on Place d'Armes (192,126 visitors), mobile guides (Ask Me: 67,056 people informed), guided tours (7,356 tours; 294,240 visitors, up 15.78%) and Bock Casements visitors up 9.35% (127,475 visitors)
The LCTO also promoted Luxembourg city abroad, in Germany, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and the UK.
For 2016, the extended opening hours of the Bock Casemates are as follows:
- from 1 March - 31 March 2016: 10:00 - 17:30 (last entry @ 17:00)
- from 1 April - 30 September 2016: 10:00 - 20:30 (last entry 20:00)
- from 1 October - 6 November 2016: 10:00 - 17:30 (last entry 17:00)
In addition, a number of special late openings are foreseen throughout 2016, until 22:30 (last entry 20:00) - exact dates to be confirmed.
