On Friday, Luxembourg's Minister of Justice, Félix Braz, is expected to present a series of proposed changes to the law on Luxembourg nationality to the Conseil d'Etat, with eligibility criteria expected to be changed subsequently.

The government (DP, LSAP, Die Greng) is understood to have meet with representatives of the main opposition party, the CSV, to discuss a number of proposed changes, as follows:

- to reduce the residence requirement ftom 7 years to 5 years

- children born in Luxembourg, and who have resided here for 5+ years, could receive Luxembourgish nationality on reaching 18 without needed to sit a language test

- those living in Luxembourg for 20+ years will not need to sit a language test

- easing of conditions for passing the language test - learning the Luxembourg language is an important factor in integration

Other issues may remain, including sitting a course and/or taking an exam in civics.
