Work performed on the access ramp along Avenue Emile Reuter for an underground car park being constructed as part of the Royal Hamilius project has resulted in settlements in the road, with a 15-metre long crack appearing near the former bus station on Monday.
Royal Hamilius project developers, Codic, released a statement later that day stating that the method used for the construction of an underground tunnel, involving pushing on the Boulevard Royal, was what caused cracks to form in the road above.
The company further claimed that actions had since been taken, with the Administration des Ponts et Chaussées notified and enhanced surveillance taken up of the crossroads by a surveyor. From 20:00 on Monday evening, the road was temporarily reconstructed and traffic redirected until 07:00 Tuesday morning.
Codic announced that circulation at Boulevard Royal has now been restored, and stated that soils would be used to stabilise the pavement.
