Two police officers were injured at Place de Paris on Saturday morning after attempting to intervene in a fight between 40-50 people.

The brawl broke out just after 06:15, leading all available officers to be brought out due to the significant number of people involved. The Grand Ducal police reported that some of those implicated were already known to be 'trouble-makers', and despite police intervention around 20 people continued trying to hit each other. Those present who were not dealing physical blows nevertheless tried to obstruct the officers by placing themselves in the way.

Two officers who were first to arrive at the scene were attacked by the crowd, trampled and punched in the face. The officers subsequently brought out pepper spray with which to defend themselves but sustained injuries. One official was left with a broken nose and was forced to take a leave of absence from duty.

Several of the offenders were taken into custody.
