The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), in collaboration with the Administration des Services Techniques de l'Agriculture (ASTA) and MétéoLux have announced that the 2015/16 winter has been the second warmest since 1947, from an analysis undertaken.
The report notes that the weather during this period was initially below average, then average with precipitation and two hurricane lows (named "Ruzica" and "Susanna"), in February.
The analysis was done in three categories: Meteorological situation, Temperature and precipitation.
In short, the report concluded that the winter of 2015/16 was characterised by mild, mostly moist Atlantic air with a brief spell of cooler air and snow coming down from Scandinavia. The temperatures were significantly high especially when compared to the winter period of 2001-2010. The lowest temperature was measured in Oberkorn of plus 2.2C and the highest in Ettelbrück, that of plus 2.9C. The only recorded winter with higher temperatures was that of 2006/07. The precipitation of the past winter was also higher that the winters of 2001-2010, the only exception to this was in the area of Findel, were the precipitation was 12% lower than the previous timespan.
