A 49 year-old woman died in a road traffic accident on Wednesday afternoon on the road between Bettembourg and Kockelscheuer.
The accident happened shortly before 15:30 when the car, being driven by the 49 year-old woman with her 29 year-old daughter in the front passenger seat, crashed into a roadside tree. The emergency services arrived quickly at the scene of the accident and needed to free the two occupants using specialist equipment; the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger received serious injuries in the accident and was brought to hospital where her condition was described as life-threatening.
As the circumstances of the accident were unclear, the public prosecutor ordered a forensic investigation of the accident scene and a police investigation was initiated.
The road was closed to traffic until around 19:00 when it was re-opened after the completion of the salvage operation.
UPDATE: The 29 year-old passenger succumber to her injuries in hospital on Thursday morning.
