Two motorists have died after a serious traffic accident, involving five vehicles, occurred at around 07:30 this morning between Gonderange and Waldhof.
The accident is thought to have been started after a young motorist lost control, possible due to high speeds and wet road conditions, of his vehicle, subsequently hurling into an oncoming blue-coloured company vehicle.
A white van was driving behind the second vehicle, the driver of which swiftly attempted to maneuver themself away from the collision. However, in doing so the white van crashed into a separate, white-coloured vehicle travelling in the fast lane, the latter of which was sent into the nearby wooded area from the impact of the collision.
Inside, two children and their father sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital, but as the children were securely strapped into their child safety seats fatalities were avoided.
A fifth vehicle arrived at the chaotic scene but was able to dodge the first vehicles and fell into a ditch, with the driver left shocked but uninjured.
Despite resuscitation attempts, the young driver and the passenger of the company vehicle died at the scene. The driver of the blue-coloured vehicle has been reported by Grand Ducal Police to be in critical condition.
The road was blocked for several hours as emergency services from Luxembourg City, an ambulance from Junglinster, Sauvetage from Junglinster, First Responder from Schuttrange-Niederanven, the fire brigade and ambulance service from Esch-sur-Alzette and the 'Groupe Support Psychologique' attended to the scene.
