Over the weekend, Grand Ducal Police were called out to Mertzig where several acts of vandalism had been committed.

The police reported that a digger in a building site opposite Mertzig church had been criminally damaged, with the windscreen, a side window and the two wing mirrors of the digger left broken.

The cemetery was also ravaged and the perpetrators destroyed a monument in front of the church and vandalised several gravesites. In addition, an inhabitant of Mertzig reported that a statue had been left in her garden, which appeared to have been stolen from the cemetery.

Along the main street, a Dixi-Loo had also been knocked over.

The Police suspect that the acts were committed during the night from Saturday 22 to Sunday 23 August 2015, and are asking members of the public with any information on the property damage or potential suspects who were in the area at this time to contact the CI Diekirch Police Department on 4997-8500.
