Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener, today presented a bilingual guide for professionals in the Luxembourg tourism industry in the field of 'Tourism for All', as a means of meeting the requirements of all visitors.
The 'Tourism for All' concept attempts to take into account the diversity in needs of clients, emphasising the importance of comfortable facilities and quality and personalised service.
The guide, available in both French and German, analyses the different expectations of various client bases. For example, there may be people with mobility, sight or hearing impairments, or elderly visitors or families with small children. The document therefore explains what companies can do in order to cater to everybody.
"In Europe, people aged over 65 account for over 217 million overnight stays per year, the people with special needs 170 million," explained Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener. "The project 'Tourism for All' will allow for the significant expansion in the scope of visitors and tourists able to come to Luxembourg. The Ministry of Economy wants to educate, encourage and financially support tourism players to improve the accessibility of their business consistently during any construction or renovation."
The 'Tourism for All' project was launched in autumn 2014 by the Ministry of Economy, in collaboration with Info-Handicap and an external provider.
