The Ministère du Développement Durable et des Infrastructures and the Administration de l'Environnement today reported that a powerful anticyclone in Central Europe will account for the heat wave that will pass over Luxembourg in the following days.
The high atmospheric pressure will produce high temperatures and a lot of sunlight over the coming week:
Tuesday 30 June 2015: The day promises to be sunny and summery, with temperatures that will reach 30°C. The wind will be weak during the day with speeds of three to five m/s between 300 and 500m of altitude, and will slowly gain intensity in the evening and at night. In such weather conditions, the maximum concentrations of tropospheric ozone will be between 135 and 155 μg/m3.
Wednesday 1 July 2015: The weather will continue to be sunny and warm, with maximum tempeartures of around 33°C. The wind will be low to moderate in speed (4-8m/s) but will not be enough to indicate a dispersion of pollutants. The maximum concentrations of tropospheric ozone are expected to range between 165 and 185 μg/m3 and there is therefore a risk they will exceed the European Informatio threshold.
Thursday 2 July 2015: Temperatures will continue to soar, with 35°C and little cloud cover expected. This will foster a strong UV radiation with very little wind. These weather conditions and the accumulation over the past few days of pollutants will be detrimental to the quality of the air and the concentrations of the tropospheric ozone will remain high at 190 μg/m3 maximum.
