British-born, Luxembourg-based artist Ben Carter is once again in the spotlight as the creative force behind POST Luxembourg’s 2025 Christmas stamp series.

The artist said that his Christmas stamps must feel “fresh, lively, playful and full of joy”. He added: “In a series, it is important that the visuals complement each other and form a coherent whole. This can be achieved through the use of similar colours or motifs, or through small recurring details. That is why I like to place all the sketches in front of me on my easel at the same time.”

Ben Carter further described the atmosphere he aims to convey through his holiday designs: “During the creation, one must always keep in mind that the image created on the easel will be greatly reduced in size for the stamp. It is important to find the right balance, not to include too many elements and to leave enough space for the motif.” He explained that creating a stamp series requires the visuals to complement one another and form a coherent whole, noting that recurring colours, motifs or subtle details help establish consistency across the designs.

POST Luxembourg highlighted that this year’s motifs depict well-known festive scenes from Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette. The Luxembourg City stamp features the Ferris wheel alongside the Gëlle Fra and Notre-Dame Cathedral, while the Esch-sur-Alzette design focuses on a traditional Christmas pyramid set against the town hall. According to Philatelux, the stamps “convey a discreet festive mood whilst remaining stylish and balanced”.

Ben Carter, who trained as an illustrator at Kingston Art College and Central Saint Martins in London, has lived in Luxembourg for many years and works across illustration, design and painting. He is best known for his acrylic cityscapes featuring Luxembourg landmarks, several of which have previously appeared on the country’s postage stamps. The artist also engages with environmental themes, using his work “to invigorate and inspire” and to raise awareness of issues related to climate change and biodiversity loss.
