On Tuesday 22 October 2024, Chronicle.lu had the opportunity to attend the inauguration of "Art Walk" at Casino Luxembourg in Luxembourg-Ville.
Art Walk is the off-site programme of Luxembourg Art Week and includes ongoing exhibitions in galleries, museums and institutions as well as special projects celebrating the tenth anniversary of the fair. Two of these exhibitions, the Capsule and Sculpture Trail were unveiled on Tuesday at Casino Luxembourg by Alex Reding, Director of Luxembourg Art Week, Sylvia Camarada, Municipal Councillor and President of the cultural commission of the City of Luxembourg, and Mélanie de Jamblinne, Deputy Director of Luxembourg Art Week.
The Capsule Project is a walking exhibition featuring six works by various international artists from France, Germany, Sweden, Ukraine and South Korea. They will be exhibited day and night in empty commercial spaces throughout the city centre. Capsule seeks to captivate the public's attention, and make art accessible to all.
Each presentation within Capsule reflects themes of identity, memory and the interplay between humanity and technology. An example of this is "Auto Wings" which is on display in an empty shop window at 12 Rue Chimay. Created by Hanna Antonsson, the project features motorised wings from roadkill birds, examining our complex relationship with nature and technology.
The Sculpture Trail features twelve sculptures, eleven of which are to be found on a route from 14 Boulevard Royal (Flesh of the Shadow Spirits), on Pont Adolphe and along Avenue de la Liberté as far as Place des Martyrs in Luxembourg-Gare. The twelfth sculpture, "the Man who Measures the Clouds" by Jan Fabre, is at Rond-Point Robert Schuman in Luxembourg-Ville.
The interesting sculptures include Marion Verboom's "Tectonie" near the start of the trail on Boulevard Royal. "The Strange Tree" by Fabien Mérelle (described as an immersion "into a world where animal, plant and mineral realms intertwine") is displayed at Pont Adolphe. The route continues on Avenue de la Liberté and ends with "Sculpture for a Square" by Max Coulon at Place des Martyrs in Luxembourg-Gare.
The public can explore and discover both the Capsule Project and the Sculpture Trail from Tuesday 22 October to Sunday 24 November 2024.
The tenth edition of Luxembourg Art Week will take place from Thursday 21 to Sunday 24 November 2024 in Glacis car park in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg, with doors open to members of the public on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
