The sculptures and paintings of Ukrainian artist Michael Levchenko are currently on display at Galerie Simoncini in Luxembourg-Ville until Saturday 15 July 2023.
This exhibition, featuring fifteen sculptures and paintings, forms part of the Ukrainian Days in Luxembourg (UA Days) project and is organised in collaboration with LUkraine asbl.
Michael Levchenko began painting at an early age and sculpting at the age of fifteen. His first works were figurative but he quickly evolved, today producing abstract but suggestive sculptures. In addition to using stone to create monumental sculptures for the public space (in Ukraine but also Belgium, France, Germany, Norway, Israel, Turkey, Canada and China), he is now turning his attention to other materials, particularly aluminum and painted wood.
The selection of works presented at Galerie Simoncini (mostly medium format) offer an idea of the diversity and quality of the artist's works, which have formed part of several private and public collections. Michael Levchenko was present at the Giardini in the Ukrainian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019 and had previously participated in the Gare Art Festival Luxembourg in 2018. The artist is now a refugee living in the Grand Duchy.
His works are on display at Galerie Simoncini until 15 July; the gallery is open to the public Tuesday to Friday from 12:00 to 18:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00.
