On Friday 16 October 2015, representatives of the diplomatic, political, business and art worlds were assembled at the Espaço Santa Catarina de la Junta de Misericordia de Freguesia for the inauguration of the exhibiton 'Luxembourg, le pays de mon coeur' by photographer-painter Jacques Schneider.
The opening in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon represented a third leg in the exhibition's journey, having previously featured in the opening of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union in Brussels and been shown more recently at the Embassy of the Grand Duchy in Tokyo.
Various facets and attractions of Luxembourg as a European capital have been highlighted in the exhibition, which includes some images of Belval. However, it was the artist's portait of HRH the Grand Duke which provoked the greatest interest in the Portuguese and foreign visitors present.
At the ceremony, the Luxembourg Ambassador to Portugal, Paul Schmit, referenced multiple links between the two countries, including the large Portuguese community which has been present in the Grand Duchy for more than fifty years. Exhibition artist Jacques Schneider thanked the Luxembourg Presidency and emphasised that his paintings and the warmth and openness they evoked made them a fitting representation of Portuguese reality.
