The Berliner Grundtheater (BGT) English Theatre Company has announced details of its next performance, Amare, which will take place on Thursday 6, Friday 7 and Saturday 8 February 2025 at Lycée Michel Rodange in Luxembourg-Merl, at 19:30.
Amare is a new play, written by Hanne Siebens, a final-year drama student at the International School of Luxembourg (ISL), who is described by BGT as "a young and promising writer and actress".
The play looks at the six different types of love, as defined by the ancient Greeks. Through a series of short but interlinked sketches and monologues, the audience is shown love as represented by a mix of relationships, both now and "then". The play offers short glimpses into the lives of married couples, children and parents, new young love and love of those who have passed on.
But what happens when a love which looks joyous at the start becomes something dark and obsessive? Behind it all stands the figure of Cupid both guiding and, seemingly, manipulating these relationships. Can this "God of Love" control the most potent of human emotions without falling victim to its power?
This is the latest BGT play to put women centre stage and to encourage young, new talent. It was developed through a series of workshops during the summer of 2024.
Starring Kim Birel, Sammy Braun, Bjørn Clasen, Sabrina Fernandez, Adriana Gospodinova, Rewa Jain, Josie Hatch, June Lowery, Gilles Fernandes Mota, Cailin Reiff, Nina Ruggieri, Natacha Stevenin and Max Wagnitz, the play is directed by Tony Kingston and Hanne Siebens.
Tickets cost €15 or €10 for students and can be reserved via email: bgt.lu.tickets@gmail.com
