The Chorale Steebrécken-Biergem, in collaboration with the Institut Européen de Chant Choral (INECC) Luxembourg and the Union Saint Pie X, has announced an upcoming concert programme for mixed choir and organ by the composer Jean-Pierre Kemmer (1923-1991).
Jean-Pierre Kemmer was a contemporary Luxembourgish composer who composed choral works, masses and concertos, symphonies, but also operetta and film music. This concert will mark his 100th birthday, focusing on the unfinished work "Missa in honorem Sancti Joseph", which has never been performed.
The project is currently open to experienced choir singers interested in joining. Participation is free; there is no registration fee.
80 singers will take part in two or three concerts set to take place between 8 and 10 December (two of which have been confirmed), under the direction of choirmaster Adriana Mitu, bringing together several choirs and individual singers. The choir will be accompanied on the organ by Jos Majerus, organist at the St Willibrord Basilica Echternach.
Speaking to Chronicle.lu, Arend Herold, the director of INECC, elaborated: “Jean-Pierre Kemmer was one of the most versatile Luxembourgish musicians of the 20th century. Besides being a professional timpani player in the RTL Symphony Orchestra, he played the organ, conducted numerous choirs and he wrote music. As a composer he was prolific and not afraid of different musical genres. Kemmer composed orchestra works with the same ease as choir arrangements, popular songs, church music or operettas. In our concerts in December, we will spotlight his ecclesiastical and choral opus.”
