On Thursday 3 March 2022, Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development unveiled the three winners of its earlier call for anti-food waste projects and presented a new anti-food waste charter.
On 29 September 2021, on the occasion of International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste, the Agriculture Ministry launched a second call for local projects supporting the prevention and reduction of food waste. Three winners were selected from eleven project applications.
The selected projects are:
- "The Syrian Canteen in Luxembourg" (La Cantine Syrienne du Luxembourg) of Foodsharing Luxembourg - the objective is to create the first canteen in the country preparing Syrian dishes from recovered food;
- "Gerette Liewensmëttel fair deelen" (rescued food, shared fairly) of Transition Nord asbl - unsold food, particularly from supermarkets in the Upper-Sûre Lake region, is collected and distributed to people in financial difficulty;
- "Conscious Dinner" of Happy Local - members of student associations organise these events in collaboration with Happy Local volunteers who concoct an "anti-waste" menu.
The budget of €10,000 will be divided equally between these three project managers.
Moreover, following increasing demand from event organisers, the Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development has drawn up a charter, which also serves as a practical guide, to encourage them in the fight against food waste.
This “Antigaspi” charter contains measures and tips to reduce food waste and the budgetary expenditure of events.
To be able to display the “Antigaspi” logo during their event, organisers must sign this charter with the ministry and commit to respecting at least seven of the measures mentioned. The respective form can be filled out or downloaded via: https://antigaspi.lu/en/activities/use-of-the-antigaspi-logo-for-events/.
This anti-food waste charter, like the call for projects, forms part of the Agriculture Ministry's "Together against food waste" awareness campaign.
