On Thursday 14 January 2021, Luxembourg's Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development, Romain Schneider, met with the new Ambassador of the Netherlands to Luxembourg, Cornelis Jan Bansema, as part of his assumption of duties.

Minister Romain Schneider and Ambassador Cornelis Jan Bansema discussed current topics as well as common interests in the field of common agricultural policy, research and the Benelux Union.

Historically, the Grand Duchy has maintained close relations with the Netherlands. In the 1950s, around 100 Dutch farming families settled on farms in Luxembourg, thus contributing to the country's agricultural development. Today, the Netherlands is a pioneer in greenhouse horticulture, with more than half of its area devoted to agriculture.

Minister Romain Schneider and Ambassador Cornelis Jan Bansema welcomed the good relations that have existed for a long time between the Grand Duchy and the Netherlands. Luxembourg's Agriculture Minister described collegial and solidarity-based exchanges between neighbours as “vital” during this difficult crisis period.
