The operator of the Cattenom nuclear power plant, EDF, has confirmed that Reactor 2 was reconnected to the electricity network on Thursday 20 July 2023.

Reactor 2 had been shut down since 4 March 2023 as part of annual maintenance. According to the French operator, EDF employees and industrial partners mobilised around nearly 16,000 maintenance and inspection activities during this period.

At the same time, and in accordance with EDF's strategy in dealing with the stress corrosion case, the teams cut and completely replaced the pipes in the reactor's safety injection circuit, noted EDF. Reactor 2 was reconnected to the electricity network in the early hours of Thursday morning and is expected to reach full power in a few days.

EDF recalled that Reactors 3 and 4 are also currently in operation, although Reactor 1 remains in scheduled shutdown for maintenance.
