On Wednesday 12 July 2023, Luxembourg's Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Franz Fayot, had a bilateral exchange by videoconference with Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, Oleksandr Kubrakov.

According to the Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs of Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, discussions focused in particular on Ukraine's reconstruction needs and priorities, both in the short and long term. The objective was to identify how Luxembourg can adapt its support to contribute more to Ukraine's reconstruction efforts, support which currently focuses mainly on military and humanitarian assistance.

Humanitarian aid and Ukraine's needs in this area were also among the points of discussion. Minister Fayot reiterated Luxembourg's resolute commitment to continue its humanitarian support for Ukraine. To date, this contribution amounts to more than €11.5 million and has been provided through a number of United Nations agencies, NGOs and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. In addition to this support, Luxembourg has provided in-kind contributions worth €7.8 million, including medical equipment, medication, generators and equipment to provide connectivity services.

During their discussions, the two ministers also touched on the crucial role of the private sector in the reconstruction of Ukraine, the results of the recent Ukraine Recovery Conference in London, the expectations regarding the Multi-Agency Donor Coordination Platform for Ukraine, as well as the first avenues for potential cooperation in the areas of digitalisation and inclusive finance.

This exchange with Deputy Prime Minister Kubrakov followed a virtual meeting between Minister Fayot and Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Yulia Svyrydenko, at the end of May 2023.
