On Friday 3 March 2023, a fire broke out at the Cattenom power plant across the border in France on a fan in a room located in the nuclear zone of production unit n° 1 around 20:00.
The operators called the firefighters; as soon as they arrived, they quickly brought the fire under control and declared it extinguished.
Cattenom reported that this event had no impact on the safety of the facilities and no casualties were involved. Unit #1 is still in production.
In accordance with the nuclear power plant's procedures, on-call teams were mobilised to carry out the necessary checks. They established that a procedural defect caused, for a very short time, the unplanned triggering of warning sirens in the municipality of Cattenom.
